Our story

Shortly after moving to Geneva in 2016, Knock on Wood founder Zsuzsanna Varga was looking to process some Guadua bamboo for her sculpting hobby, only to discover there were no workshops accessible to the general public. Further investigation revealed there were many others in the area dealing with the same issue, which eventually led her to start validating the business idea of a shared workshop.

Fast forward eight years, four different spaces, and many reiterations, and today we are proud to have our beautiful Craft Factories in Geneva and Lausanne that serves as an umbrella organisation for artisans wanting to grow in a collaborative environment. Knock on Wood is also present in Zurich, and we don’t plan on stopping!

Who we are

At our core, we are a group of passionate crafters looking to share our passion and empower people to create.

We come from all different backgrounds: from formally trained woodworkers to engineers, students, coaches, and others.

We are not a professional woodworking school. Rather, we strive to create a community where everyone can craft — from children to the elderly, men and women alike, from odd jobs like repairing a broken object to making Christmas gifts or bespoke, high-end furniture that will last for decades.

As a result, we aim to make learning with us fun, engaging, and quick. We also encourage mutual support and growth in our community.
